London`s Sanderson voted UK`s hippest hotel
Thursday, October 12, 2006
Morgans Hotel Group scores twice in the survey of the worlds top 10 hip hotels. London’s Sanderson was the only UK hotel to be included in the top 10 hip hotels list according to the TripAdvisor website. Sanderson was named a ‘Surrealist sanctuary’ with one TripAdvisor traveller commenting “It really is like being in a big art piece.”

Morgans Hotel Group’s San Francisco property, Clift, was praised for its ‘fusion of traditional and contemporary design. The Clift Hotel is a treat for the eclectic art lover. The amenities are as striking as the rooms, including the Redwood Bar, which features digital image displays and floor-to-ceiling mirrors.’ As one TripAdvisor traveller said, “The Clift is for anyone looking to escape their normal life and enter an exciting hotel with buzzing public spaces.”

The results are based on traveller popularity and the opinions of the TripAdvisor editors.

The top 10 hip hotels list is:

  1. Hotel Gansevoort, New York City

  2. Sanderson, London

  3. THEhotel at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas

  4. Hotel St Paul, Montreal

  5. Claris Hotel, Barcelona

  6. Clift Hotel, San Francisco

  7. The Setai, Miami, Florida

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
