BA flights cancellations fuel half-term concerns
Friday, January 26, 2007
Following the announcement that British Airways has been forced to cancel flights next week due to industrial action, Marsdens Cottage Holidays has been inundated with calls not only from those who had planned to go abroad for some winter sun next week, but also from parents worried that this may affect their half-term plans.

Peter Cornwell, a partner of Marsdens Cottage Holidays says “People seem to be solely concerned about turning up to the airport next week to find that they face endless hours of waiting or a cancelled flight due to the knock-on effect of these cancellations. Since the news broke we have sold a handful of cottages to those who had planned to fly with BA next week and had several enquiries into availability over the half-term weeks – as fears mount that this may be the start of something more long term.”

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
