Air One enters second phase of Alitalia bid
Friday, February 16, 2007
Air One has given the green light from the Italian government to proceed to the second phase of the privatisation of Alitalia. Air One’s Chairman Carlo Toto commented on his company’s admission to the second phase by saying I am pleased with the outcome of this first selection phase in which Air One has been included in the shortlist of bidders.
Today Italy’s private airline, Air One has a more than 30% share of the domestic market and by the end of 2007 will have a fleet of over 50 aircraft. I was confident about the Ministry’s decision as we satisfy all the necessary requirements: financial soundness, the ability to offer a solution that maintains Alitalia’s national identity and adequate financial resources to carry through the operation. Air One’s business experience may prove a strategic asset for the restructuring and relaunch of Alitalia if the right conditions will be present.
