Cologne Cathedral first tourist attraction in Germany
Friday, August 31, 2007
Cologne Cathedral has been rated the most popular landmark in Germany. That is the result of a recent online survey carried out by the German Tourism Association (DTV) and an internet portal for German cities. 15.2percent of the 3,000 respondents chose the Gothic cathedral as the answer to the open question: “What is your personal favourite landmark in Germany?”

In second place was Neuschwanstein Castle (9.4%) and third Dresden’s Frauenkirche cathedral (6.5 %).

Last autumn Cologne cathedral was already presented as the top German tourist attraction in the TV-competition “Unsere Besten” (“Our Greatest”) advertised in ZDF television, in which the Cologne landmark came out as the clear winner. Cologne Tourist Board manager Josef Sommer was delighted to hear about another victory: “Cologne cathedral is and will remain the top tourist magnet and will lure many million more domestic and foreign guests to Cologne.”

Since 1995 Cologne cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site, and casts a spell over more than 6 million visitors each year, making the Cologne landmark not only the most popular, but also the most visited tourist attraction in Germany.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
