Travel through a world of Christmas Magic in Germany
Monday, October 15, 2007

As Christmas approaches, Germany reveals its most atmospheric side. Over 2,500 Christmas markets in wonderful settings invite you to share in the joy of the pre-Christmas season and enter into Germany's special festive mood.

The first ever Christmas market, Dresden's Striezelmarkt, recorded as far back as 1434. In those days, Christmas markets lasted no more than a day or two and tended to confine themselves to the area around the main church.

Nowadays, Christmas markets usually start before the first weekend of Advent (around the end of November) and go on until Christmas Eve or thereabouts. Some do not finish until Epiphany on 6 January.

Christmas markets in Germany's rural areas are no less attractive than those in larger towns and cities, though some only take place on weekends.

Still have Christmas presents to buy for friends and family? Why not combine a Christmas market visit with some shopping at Germany's larger stores? Their Christmas displays are a sight to behold and there are plenty of attractive offers. Christmas shopping in Germany's major cities such as Berlin, Düsseldorf or Munich is an exciting experience.

Main shopping streets will be especially festive, with fabulous Christmas decorations and illuminations.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
