Friday, November 09, 2007
BCD Travel announced that it has expanded its operations in India through the acquisition of A.V. Tours and Travel Pvt. Ltd., an independent travel management company headquartered in Hyderabad.

Ms. Ilona De March, president and COO for Europe and India for BCD Travel, said: “This move sends a strong signal to the Indian and international markets that as a global player in the corporate travel management industry, BCD Travel is committed to being where our customers need us to be – and to providing strong, best-in-class service with a local touch in all of our markets.”

The acquisition of A.V. Tours and Travel, which recorded over US$7 million in sales in 2006, represents a major expansion for BCD Travel in the growing Hyderabad market. Mr. Venkatesh Muthigi, managing director, A.V. Tours and Travel, will join the senior management team of BCD Travel in India.

Mr. Ajay Bali, managing director of BCD Travel in India, noted: “We are very pleased to expand our footprint in one of India’s fastest-growing markets. We welcome all the employees of A.V. Tours and Travel to the BCD Travel family, and I am very excited to add Mr. Muthigi to our senior leadership team.”

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
