TFWA expects excellent visitor figures
Monday, May 05, 2008

TFWA is confident that the number of visitors who will attend the annual TFWA Asia Pacific and Gate ONE2ONE event from 12-15 May in Suntec Singapore will exceed the number who attended last year. The number of pre-registered duty free and travel retail operators and landlords, who are deemed to be key to a successful event, was over 23% higher than at the same stage last year when pre-registration closed.

Executives from 31 major international airports have already confirmed including many newcomers from China, India and also The Philippines and Thailand1. The vast majority of these airports will participate in the ONE2ONE scheme of pre-arranged meetings with suppliers of products and services which is being introduced this year and is proving to be very popular.

TFWA attributes the excellent pre-registered visitor figures to the range and high quality of exhibiting companies which have confirmed their presence, to the outstanding conference programme of eminent speakers planned for Monday 12th May, to the improved networking arrangements and to the sustained marketing campaign which has communicated the value of this event to the region.

A record 222 companies from all over the world will exhibit their latest and most exciting products destined for duty free and travel retail outlets, including this year 62 new exhibitors, from the beauty, fashion, jewellery, confectionery, electronics, gifts, liquor and tobacco sectors. At over 6,300 m² the exhibition floor will be 15% larger than last year.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
