Canada's annual Online Revealed conference a huge success
Wednesday, May 21, 2008

The Online Revealed Internet Marketing Conference held May 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary, Alberta hosted over 230 of Canada’s leading tourism professionals including Destination Marketing Organizations, Hotel Brands, Tourism Associations, Search Engines, Technology Companies and Tourism Marketing experts. Over the two day event, 16 workshops, 3 panel discussions and 3 keynote presentations addressed critical issues influencing tourism in Canada - with content presented by tourism professionals and internet marketing experts in a non-intimidating, interactive and fun atmosphere.

Co-produced by Yahoo! Canada and A Couple of Chicks e-Marketing, and supported by industry leaders such as Orbitz, Travelocity, TravelZoo, TIG Global, MSN, Booking.com, Travel Alberta and Niagara Falls Tourism, the 2-day internet marketing conference provided the forum for sharing information with industry professionals on pertinent topics such as social media, web 2.0, managing online and offline content, and selling Canadian travel on the internet in a global marketplace.

Highly attended social networking events included the opening May 12th reception hosted by Destination Partner Travel Alberta, the May 13th “Toast to Canada” Travelzoo celebration, and the closing event presented by Niagara Falls Tourism, Destination Partner for the 4th annual Online Revealed Internet Marketing Conference which will be held next May, 2009 in Niagara Falls.

Destination Partner Travel Alberta launched the conference by showcasing innovative social media marketing initiatives.  Highlights of the conference included a keynote presentation by Kyle MacDonald, the one red paper clip guy, who inspired the attendees by sharing his amazing journey, to trade one red paper clip of their own for something “bigger and better” throughout the two-day event.  Active trading included an Icefield helicopter tour for four, a guest spot on the "Get Connected" TV show, and even the Travelocity Gnome - proving the power of social networking  online and off that will continue post conference.

The Tips from the T-List Bloggers Summit brought together a panel of travel industry bloggers who have successfully produced, and are actively using blogs to market their tourism brand. This highly attended workshop will become a full panel presentation at the 4th annual Online Revealed Internet Marketing Conference to be held in Niagara Falls, in May 2009, and the 1st annual Online Revealed Caribbean Internet Marketing Conference in Puerto Rico September 18-19, 2008.

TravelDailyNews International was the Media Partner of the event.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
