With the cost of living on the constant increase and the Global Credit Crunch denting holiday finances, it seems as though one industry is enjoying a resurgence. Britons' are going back-to-basics this summer, according to Marsdens Cottage Holidays, Devon’s independent holiday cottage company, with “a move towards old values, old destinations and a good old value for money seaside holiday".
Soaring household bills and continually rising food prices have meant the annual summer holiday is something that has to be strictly budgeted for in 2008, but due to incredible value for money, demand for holiday cottages in the South West of England this summer has remained strong.
"Many families aren’t able to afford the annual trip to the Caribbean or Mediterranean this year, so parents are seeing this as an opportunity to relive their own summer holiday experiences and enjoy traditional, yet 21st century, family seaside break where everyone has fun together. And most important of all, staying at home keeps money in the UK and helps regenerate the economy,” says Peter Cornwell, a partner of Marsdens Cottage Holidays.
