Gate Gourmet completes purchase of five airline catering units in Germany
Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Gate Gourmet, the world’s largest independent airline catering and logistics provider and a member of gategroup, announced today that it has completed the purchase of five airline catering units in Germany from Air Berlin and SCK Sky Catering Kitchen GmbH.  The transaction was approved by German competition authorities last week.

The five flight kitchens are located at Dusseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Munster/Osnabruck, Leipzig/Halle and Paderborn and serve approximately 18,000 flights total a year, with Air Berlin’s hub Dusseldorf being the largest single unit at approximately 10,000 flights annually.

“With the acquisition of these five facilities we have taken an important step in securing our position in the German airline catering market,”
said Guy Dubois, President and CEO Designate of gategroup, the umbrella brand representing Gate Gourmet and 10 other brands.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
