Mayor endorses Zoom aircraft
Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Zoom Airlines’ additional aircraft was officially named ‘The City of Brighton & Hove’ today when the aircraft was unveiled by the Right Worshipful Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn.

The aircraft, a Boeing 767 has been added to Zoom Airlines’ fleet at Gatwick as the airline continues to expand its services.  Flights to New York and Bermuda were introduced last year and it is adding direct flights to San Diego and Fort Lauderdale this summer together with more direct flights than ever before to seven key destinations in Canada.

Zoom conducted a company-wide survey asking which UK city they wished the aircraft to be named after. The vote resulted in the City of Brighton & Hove being chosen, no doubt because many of Zoom’s staff live in the area!

Speaking at the official naming ceremony, Jonathan Hinkles, Managing Director of Zoom Airlines said: “It is a great honour to welcome the Right Worshipful Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn to Gatwick today and officially endorse our new aircraft. Brighton and Hove was granted city status in 2000 and it is fitting that our youthful airline is the first ever to have an aircraft named after this young city that shares a common goal with us in achieving overseas success.

“This aircraft is a very welcome addition to our existing fleet at Gatwick and it is a testament to the growth of our company and our commitment to continue to serve the local community. Our expanded service offering is evidence to the level of demand for our low-cost high quality flights.”

The Right Worshipful Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn said: “It's a great accolade to have an aircraft named in the city's honour.  I'm hoping it helps spread the good name of Brighton & Hove far and wide to people in North America and Canada and elsewhere, as well as encouraging them to visit us one day. Together Zoom and Brighton & Hove will be reaching new heights.”

The naming ceremony received full council support with the Right Worshipful Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn, Councillor Mary Mears, Leader of the Council and additional council members.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
