Wednesday, August 13, 2008
In today's world it is increasingly important that travel agency owners and managers be aware of the key industry issues that face them and take advantage of professional development and growth opportunities. For this reason, THE TRADESHOW is offering a series of seminars focused on arming travel industry professionals with the tools they need to succeed. The 2008 THE TRADESHOW will take place in Orlando, Sept. 7-9, at the Orange County Convention Center.
"To thrive in a competitive business, travel agents need to be able to recognize opportunities, prepare for potential challenge, and overcome hurdles," said
Bill Connors, CTC, Executive Director & COO of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), a sponsor of THE TRADESHOW.
"NBTA is pleased to be part of the educational program at THE TRADESHOW, where seminars are designed to help attendees meet these business needs. NBTA will offer a ‘taste' of its Fundamentals of Business Travel Management program, giving agents a chance to overview this potentially lucrative industry segment."
Delegates will have the option of attending any or all of the following seminars:
- GDS Contracts. Presented by Mark Pestronk. Travel agents will learn how to obtain the best GDS contract for their agency based on agency size and mix, what kinds of incentives agents can expect based on what is being offered today, and what are the GDS-contract traps for the unwary. Also covered is the role of GDS contracts in agency sales and agency closures.
- Legal Seminar. Presented by Mark Prestronk. In this seminar, travel agents will learn about "the Dark Side of the Force"; i.e., the terrible things that can happen to travel agency owners and executives, and what can be done to prevent or ameliorate them. Examples include extraordinary debit memos due to employee or customer fraud, liability created by independent contractors, IRS re-classification of independents as employees, client claims for negligence, and suits by former employees.
- A Taste of the CTE Program - The Fundamentals of Business Travel Management. Brought to you by NBTA. Presented by Robin Roane. The Fundamentals of Business Travel Management is a course offered by the National Business Travel Association that once successfully completed, leads to the designation of Corporate Travel Expert (CTE). A complete description of the course and highlights of its contents will be the focus of this session. If holding a designation in the corporate travel sector is of interest, plan to attend and learn all about NBTA's Corporate Travel Expert program.
