Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority enters Russian market with AVIAREPS
Friday, September 26, 2008
The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) is to extend its cooperation with the AVIAREPS Group, the world leader in airline and tourism marketing. AVIAREPS’ subsidiary in Moscow will be dedicated to handling all public relations matters relating to the Russian market on behalf of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. All future activities will focus on promoting the island of Mauritius as a unique and exotic tourist destination. As well as commissioning the company to manage this new region, MTPA also renewed its existing contracts with the AVIAREPS subsidiaries in Germany (AVIAREPS Mangum) and Spain (Airline Center Espana S.L.).

Its picturesque flora makes the island of Mauritius a favoured destination, especially for honeymooners. The colourful coral reefs are one of Mauritius’ unique features that attract predominantly luxury tourists and divers to this island off the coast of Africa. The exceptional ambience of the island and the opportunity to mix business with pleasure also make Mauritius a popular location for the MICE sector.

Robert Obolgogiani, General Manager of AVIAREPS Russia, points out: “Russian travellers are increasingly demanding luxurious and exotic destinations. In fact, the MTPA has chosen a very favourable point in time to enter the Russian market - the AVIAREPS Group is very pleased to be entrusted by the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority to assist them in this challenge.”

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
