ADNEC and Starwood Hotels & Resorts appoint General Manager for new cutting edge hotel Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) and Starwood Hotels and Resorts have announced the appointment of experienced hotelier, Stephan Vanden Auweele as the General Manager of the first Aloft hotel in the Middle East (ME) region. Belgian born hotelier Mr Vanden Auweele, who has extensive experience in opening and managing hotels around the world, will spearhead the innovative 4-star hotel, which is currently under construction. Fully integrated into the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the 408 room hotel will complement the striking architecture of the new venue and will provide the ideal ‘home away from home’ for exhibitors, exhibition visitors and, in the near future, Capital Centre business professionals. Aloft will ‘recharge’ and ‘refuel’, guests with a perfect combination of urban attitude, modern simplicity with home-like comforts, accessible state-of-the-art technology, healthy food options including a 24/7 ‘grab and go’ pantry in the lobby, and fitness and pool facilities.
Guam Visitors Bureau: New Deputy General Manager announced The Guam Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Marcel Camacho as its new Deputy General Manager. Camacho brings years of experience and an extensive knowledge of the tourism industry to his new position with GVB. Camacho, a former Senator with the 25th Guam Legislature, graduated from California Polytechnic University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Following graduation, Camacho worked for the Hilton hotel conglomerate in Southern California for many years before returning home to Guam. Camacho’s experience as a Guam Senator, and his previous experience in developing the island’s zoning and land use master plan, will bring an element of policy making expertise to the bureau. “Mr. Camacho’s professional background and experience will be an important asset as the bureau continues to work on the brand building and community outreach initiatives outlined in the Five Year Tourism Strategic Plan,” said GVB General Manager Gerald S. A. Perez. Staff, management, and the Board of Directors are very happy with Camacho’s appointment as GVB Deputy General Manager. Camacho’s first official day will be Tuesday, December 9, 2008.
