Strintzis Lines posts impressive profit increase

Strintzis<.> Lines, a listed ferry line on the Athens bourse, recently reported that net profit<.> jumped by 187 percent to reach 768 million drachmas for the first half of this year, compared with 267 million drachmas for the same period last year.
First half turnover rose to 8.9 billion drachmas from 7.4 billion drachmas a year earlier, marking a rise of 21 percent. The increase, said the company, was achieved despite the introduction of three new ships by rival companies on the Adriatic route, which the company plies. Strintzis Lines is currently carrying out an investment plan worth 95 billion drachmas. It includes the construction of five new ships at three shipyards - Van de Giessen, Daewoo and Hellenic Shipyards. The new ships will be used on Adriatic and domestic routes.
