Winter traffic to Canada continues to grow

The 2005 February UK visitor numbers were released by Statistics Canada last week. These revealed a 14.86% increase on the 2004 figures with January to February figures totalling 85,800 visitors, a 14.15% increase on last years visitor numbers over the same period.

We are delighted to have kicked off 2005 in such a positive mood, said Ian Harrower, UK Director of the Canadian Tourism Commission. Business to Canada is looking good and we are very excited about the prospect of reaching our first 1 million UK visitors very soon , he added.

Debbie Marshall, UK Director of Zoom Airlines said: Our winter flights for the Canadian ski season 2004/2005 were in so much demand that we had to add additional flights over the Christmas period. We have made it far more affordable for skiers and boarders to experience the world renowned ski resorts of Whistler and Tremblant with direct scheduled flights from Gatwick and Glasgow starting at

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
