Lapland’s largest new hotel opening for 2019 focusing on Finnish art and design
Design Hotel Levi is a new luxury design hotel opening in the village of Levi in Finnish Lapland this winter. The £10 million project will see the largest hotel project in the Arctic region open in December which will have a particular focus on Nordic art and design.
The hotel is being built adjacent to its sister hotel, Levi Hotel and Spa and will offer 77 rooms and suites which aim to combine Arctic nature into the design in a unique way.
The hotel will cater for couples, groups and families alike, those looking for luxury accomodation with a convenient central location for access to the Levi village and all its amenities as well as the area’s first class ski slopes and year round outdoors activities.

Working with architect Pave Mikkonen the new hotel will offer a genuine experience of Arctic art and design. The ’hip’ roof blends into the fell highland landscape with the exterior built of greying Lapland pinewood and a reception area of natural stone. The colours and materials used will include locally sourced wood, natural stone and copper.
The design detail focuses on contemporary, authentic Finnish design with artwork for both the hotel and restaurants coming from acclaimed artists working in the area including the sculptor Essi Korva and photographer Kaisa Siren. For example Kaisa’s giant, abstract photography will be used as murials, partitions and shower walls. The staff will be flying the Finnish fashion flag wearing Marimekko.
Location and Dining Options
The new hotel is located at the foot of Levi Ski Resort slopes, right in the heart of Levi Village with guests having direct access to sister hotel Levi Hotel Spa Resort's spa, choice of restaurants and other extensive facilities including the Waterworld.
Guests will have access to the fine dining restaurant Kekale serving breakfast and dinner which will offer an impressive open charcoal kitchen offering quality, seasonal Arctic flavors. In addition, a choice of three other resturants are available including a Pizza resturant as well as the Joiku music bar.
Activities to suit everyone – Ski, snowmobile, huskies, reindeer, santa and more…
The Levi region offers one of the largest choices of activities in the Arctic region. From northern lights snowmobile safaris, ice karting, cross country snowshoeing, moonlit horseriding adventures, visits to Santa’s cabin, to more holistic experiences such as ’latte and art’ walks and ’tree cocooning’, there is something for couples, groups and families alike of every age range.
During the winter there are 230kms of maintained cross country tracks, 886kms of snowmobile trails, 20kms of winter walking and biking routes for visitors to enjoy.
World Class Downhill
Levi offers overs 40 pistes for downhill skiers and snowboarders of all levels including total beginners, families as well as those looking for more challenging slopes. The village has also been host to the Alpine Ski World Cup since 2004 on the Levi Black run (annually in November) which really shows the quality of the skiing on offer.
The hotel is set to open on 12 December 2019.
Transport links
The hotel is approximately a 10 minute drive from Kittila which receives both international and domestic flights, with increased frequency during the winter season.
Alternatively there is even more choice of flights into Rovaniemi, a 170km drive from Levi (approx 2.5 hours transfer during the winter months and 2 hours in the summer).
