A new wellbeing hotel built on an Arctic river in Swedish Lapland takes cutting-edge Scandi-design and Nordic wellness to a new level.
As construction for the long-awaited floating Arctic Bath in Swedish Lapland continues, Nordic travel specialist Discover the World has opened reservations for travel from February 2020.
The new 12-room hotel, created by the same team as the Treehotel and designed by architects Bertil Harstrom and Johan Kaupp, is based in southern Lapland and aims to harness the very extreme Arctic seasons, literally floating on the surface of the Lule River during summer and tethered to the frozen ice during the winter. It will be featured as part of Discover the World’s Nordic programme year-round with guests set to experience the hotel during its first winter season from early next year.
Located a short drive from the Treehotel and a handy hour’s transfer from Lulea, in Harads, the hotel has a circular form and a facade of huge floating logs, reflecting the region’s logging heritage, and has been constructed using local materials with very little impact on the environment. Centred around a circular open-air plunge pool, the main building consists of a restaurant, lounge, spa treatment rooms, sauna, changing facilities and a hot bath for soothing muscles between bracing cold dips.
Guests can stay in one of the 'flotilla' of six cabins located just downstream from the main building, each with Scandi-chic interiors, a light wooden-panelled design, cosy wood burners and huge picture windows overlooking the river, connected to the shore via floating walkways. Six more cabins can be found on land.
Arctic Bath offers an experience focused on wellness, based on the four elements of nutrition, regular exercise, peace of mind and body care. These are reflected through menus offering clean ingredients, the encouragement of exercise, mindfulness and meditation sessions and a variety of spa treatments. Guests can also combine invigorating ice bathing with a sauna, hot bath or massage (experiencing the benefits of alternating cold-water and hot-water) as well as yoga, meditation and cleansing sessions such as crystal healing.
During summer, Arctic Bath will also be a prime spot for hiking and exploring the riverside, whilst the rural location ensures guests have the best chance of spotting the elusive Northern Lights during the winter. Just imagine taking an icy plunge whilst the aurora blazes away overhead!
Discover the World’s travel collection offers the opportunity to combine a stay at the new Arctic Bath with various Arctic adventures and activities including a stay at the iconic Icehotel located near Kiruna to the north, a stay at the impressive Treehotel near Lulea and a unique Sami glamping experience at Sapmi Nature Camp in the Laponia World Heritage Park.
Both single and multi-centre breaks are available, allowing guests to combine Arctic Bath with plenty of adventures across Swedish Lapland, Norway and further afield towards Iceland
